Unexpected Beginnings
It all started with an unplanned move to Hawaii and a roadtrip to Mexico...
In July of 2022, I embarked on my first solo travel journey to O'ahu. A one week vacation ended up turning into a 2 month stay. I had been interested in photography for nearly two decades, but it was this beautiful island that reignited my passion; I finally decided to retire my old D7200 an invest in a proper full frame camera.
Later that year, I got a phone call from an acquaintance of a good friend of mine. He was looking for someone to accompany him on a roadtrip down to Mexico to have some dental work done; my friend said, if anyone's down to go on a last minute adventure, it's Danny. Despite the fact I had never spent time with the guy, I decided to accompany him. I grabbed my work laptop, new Sony A7IV, a few lenses and away we went.
We stayed in the border town of Yuma while he got a new set of pearly whites, and eventually made our way to San Diego, then Los Angeles. Upon our arrival, we discovered there was a Burning Man-esque event taking place the following weekend. So, we extended our stay in order to attend. I decided to bring my A7 and photograph the event. I was surprised at the level of interest people had in my work and this got me thinking...could I actually turn this photography passion into a real business?
Upon my return, I decided it was time to leave the comfort of my friends and family to start a new life here in LA - the perfect place for a budding photographer to put his skills to the test.
